Frequently Asked Questions

What is metallic epoxy and how does it work?

Metallic epoxy is a decorative flooring finish that incorporates metallic pigments in epoxy resin to create a three-dimensional, reflective surface. It requires precise mixing, specialized application, and quality curing to achieve dramatic effects.

How is concrete staining different from epoxy coatings?

While both stains and epoxy are considered overlays, they work differently. Some stains, particularly acid stains, penetrate the concrete surface to create color through a chemical reaction. Most other stains sit on the surface similar to epoxy. Epoxy coatings form a thick, protective layer on top of the concrete that provides both decoration and durability.

A key distinction is that stained concrete typically requires a topcoat sealer for protection, and once this sealer is applied, the surface is no longer breathable—similar to epoxy. The main differences are in application thickness, appearance (stains tend to look more natural while epoxy creates a uniform coating), and durability (epoxy generally provides more robust protection).

How long does epoxy flooring last?

With proper surface preparation, use of premium materials, and maintenance, epoxy floor coatings can last 10-20 years or more in residential settings; commercial/industrial may need resealing or touch-ups sooner depending on traffic.

Is epoxy flooring safe / non-slip?

Yes, when properly finished. We can add slip-resistant additives, choose high-grip topcoats. Also, the surface is sealed so it’s easy to clean and resists bacteria growth.

How do I maintain and clean my epoxy or stained concrete floor?

Suggestions: use pH-neutral cleaners, avoid harsh abrasives, sweep/dust regularly, promptly clean spills, reseal if needed, avoid dragging heavy sharp objects.

How much does it cost per square foot?

Pricing depends on several factors: square footage, condition of the concrete substrate, type of finish, and complexity of design.

Finish options include:

  • Standard epoxy - a solid color coating

  • Flake epoxy - decorative chips broadcast into the same epoxy base

  • Metallic epoxy - a specialty coating system with metallic additives that creates unique visual effects

  • Concrete stain - a different application method for coloring concrete

Each option varies in material costs and labor intensity. Contact us for a personalized free estimate based on your specific project needs.

Can you do outdoor epoxy or coatings in the Las Vegas climate?

Yes — but outdoor use requires products that resist UV, thermal expansion, moisture. We select appropriate materials and sealers for patios, driveways, walkways so they withstand sun, heat, occasional monsoon weather, etc.
